New York layover on a budget, what crew do without spending 200 dollars
-
#1 Newark based but I do New York layovers for other airlines' crew who ask. Free or nearly: walk the High Line, Central Park, the Staten Island ferry for the view, the Met is pay what you wish for some, the Brooklyn Bridge. Eat: pizza slices, dumplings in Chinatown, a bagel. The crew hotel is usually in Midtown or by JFK, so the subway is the whole plan. A great day is 40 dollars if you are disciplined.

#2 THY crew hotel is Midtown, this is exactly my New York day. The ferry is the best free thing in the city.

#3 Adding the Japanese grocery on the way back for the crew who need onigiri. Every airline's Japanese crew know it.
