SAS and parental leave, why Scandinavian carriers keep crew for decades

Eight years at SAS. The thing people outside Scandinavia don't know: parental leave is generous by law and the airline supports it, part time after children is normal, and the union agreement protects rest. Pay is good, taxes are high, and the roster is humane. It is not a glamour airline and the winters are dark, but the number of colleagues with twenty year careers and families tells you something. If you are from the Nordics, don't overlook it for the Gulf.

Norwegian is less generous than SAS on this but the same culture. The humane roster is the Nordic thing.

Add Lufthansa to the 'humane roster, long careers' list. The northern European legacy carriers are a category.
