Lufthansa — Appearance & Grooming

Lufthansa's appearance standard is conservative, procedural and taught rather than advertised: neat hairstyles, discreet jewellery and a presentation aligned with the service brand, with tattoos covered in uniform. The specifics are covered in the paid initial course.

Grooming · Lufthansa

Hair
Neat, conventional and safe for the cabin, in a natural colour, worn up or short so it stays off the collar during service. Lufthansa does not publish a list of approved styles.
Make-up
No published specification. The expectation is discreet and professional rather than prescribed, and the airline's own aviation training arm runs demeanour-and-appearance modules that set the standard for new joiners.
Facial hair
Lufthansa does not publish a beard rule. A neatly trimmed, well-maintained beard is more normal at European carriers than in the Gulf, but confirm the current position during the assessment rather than assuming.
Nails
Short, clean and discreet. There is no published shade or length rule; the guiding principle is that nothing should distract from the uniform or interfere with service.
Glasses & contacts
Prescription glasses are accepted on duty with conventional frames, and no restrictive specification is published. A spare pair is standard practice on long-haul rotations.
Piercings
Conservative jewellery is the published expectation, which in practice means small, plain earrings and nothing facial. Lufthansa does not publish a numbered limit.
Jewellery
Conservative and minimal is the stated standard — a plain watch and simple rings. Anything decorative sits outside a deliberately understated corporate look.
Tattoos in uniform
Nothing may be visible while you are in uniform, so a forearm tattoo that a long-sleeved shirt covers is tolerated in practice while the same design on a hand, neck or face is disqualifying. That makes sleeve length the practical dividing line here, and it is worth checking which shirt variants your base actually flies in.
Headscarf
Lufthansa does not publish a headscarf option for cabin crew as a named uniform item. Raise it with recruitment during the Be-Lufthansa process rather than assuming a position.
Uniform
The classic navy-and-yellow corporate uniform, issued and fitted during the roughly two-month paid initial course in Frankfurt or Munich. The look is deliberately understated and consistent across a very large workforce rather than fashion-led.

Grooming rules change more often than any other requirement. Verify them on the airline's official careers page before you buy anything or book a hair appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Does Lufthansa allow beards for cabin crew?

Lufthansa does not publish a beard rule. Neatly trimmed facial hair is more accepted at European carriers than in the Gulf, but confirm the current standard during the assessment — it is set out in initial training, not online.

Can Lufthansa cabin crew have tattoos?

Only where the uniform covers them. Forearm tattoos coverable by long sleeves are tolerated in practice, but hand, neck and face tattoos are disqualifying.

What are Lufthansa's grooming standards?

Neat hairstyles, conservative jewellery and a presentation aligned with the service brand, with nothing visible in uniform that distracts from it. The detail comes in the paid initial course rather than the job advert.
