Qatar Airways — Appearance & Grooming
Qatar Airways runs one of the most disciplined grooming regimes in the Gulf, with the burgundy uniform, the hat and the hair-and-lipstick standard checked before nearly every duty. Expect a formal image assessment on the assessment day itself.
Grooming · Qatar Airways
- Hair
- Long hair is worn up in a bun, secured with a hairnet or the airline's ribbon, styled away from the face and free of loose strands. Colour must be natural — no fashion tones — and short hair is expected to be neatly cut and off the collar.
- Make-up
- Female crew wear full-coverage foundation and concealer, black mascara that is not clumpy, and a matte or satin blush rather than anything with glitter. Lipstick sits in the airline's family of deep reds, burgundies and deep pinks so it reads with the uniform.
- Facial hair
- Male crew are clean-shaven at all times; beards, goatees and moustaches are not part of the standard. This is one of the stricter facial-hair policies among the major carriers, and it is enforced daily rather than at intervals.
- Nails
- Nails are kept short, clean and properly manicured, in nude, clear or a French finish, or in the same deep red, burgundy and deep pink range as the lipstick. Nothing decorative, no art and no chips.
- Glasses & contacts
- Qatar Airways does not publish an eyewear rule in its cabin crew adverts. Crew consistently describe plain, discreet frames as acceptable on duty with a spare pair carried onboard, but confirm the current position at the assessment day rather than assuming.
- Piercings
- One pair of small, plain earrings for female crew is the practical limit; other visible piercings are not worn in uniform and male crew wear none. Anything beyond that will be picked up at the grooming check.
- Jewellery
- Only plain pieces in gold, silver, black or brown are worn — a simple watch and plain rings. Statement necklaces, bracelets and mixed metals do not meet the standard.
- Tattoos in uniform
- No tattoo may be visible in uniform, and Qatar Airways does not accept plasters, bandages or makeup as a cover-up — the check is done on you, not on your concealer. Because the short-sleeved shirt and skirt are the reference point, forearm, wrist, hand, lower-leg, neck and face designs are the ones that disqualify.
- Headscarf
- Qatar Airways does not publish a hijab option for cabin crew, and the uniform hat and scarf are not one. If a headscarf is essential for you, put the question to recruitment before investing in an application.
- Uniform
- The burgundy two-piece with the pillbox hat and matching neck scarf is the airline's signature, with white gloves worn for boarding on some duties; male crew wear a burgundy-accented suit. It is issued and fitted in Doha during initial training.
Grooming rules change more often than any other requirement. Verify them on the airline's official careers page before you buy anything or book a hair appointment.
