Crew bus
Airline-provided transport between the crew hotel or accommodation and the airport — its pickup time is a report time in disguise.
Definition
The crew bus is the transport an airline provides to move crew between the airport and the crew hotel on a layover, and at Gulf carriers between company accommodation and the airport at base as well. The pickup time is printed on the roster or confirmed by the hotel, calculated back from report time, and missing it is treated as missing the flight. In some cities it is a coach, in others a fleet of cars or app-booked vehicles.
What it means for you
The pickup time is the fixed point around which you plan every layover: sleep, sightseeing and meals all count back from it, and a late crew member holds the whole crew and the aircraft. At base, a 24/7 transport service is one of the quiet benefits of a Gulf accommodation package, saving a car and a commute. On the road, the bus is also where the crew debriefs, so it is a social space as much as a shuttle.
In practice
Emirates provides 24/7 transport from company housing to work in Dubai; in Doha the city guide on this site notes that at rush hour the metro is often faster than the crew bus, but the pickup time the airline sets still stands.
